A (Sun)Day in the Life

I have a vision to change up things a little here on the blog in 2017. The world is new, and I’m feeling like a spring clean in the types of posts I share with you. I don’t want to just share recipes (although there will be plenty of those) I want to try and branch out and talk to you more about what I am passionate about in my personal life (ahem, Penny), in my professional life (compassionate nutrition, joyful movement, and self care), and the adventures I get up to when I’m not behind the computer or a camera.

So this week I thought I’d share a little glimpse into what I got up to on Sunday! Here goes!I’m an early bird so when my alarm goes off  at 5.30 and Penny licks my face I am happy to get up and head out for a walk with her. She’s a stellar walking companion and I get to wake up in a nice relaxing way with a wander around our neighbourhood. Plus, Penny feels awesome after she’s romped and sniffed and that makes me feel like a good puppy mum.

I felt like some quiet alone and active time so I popped on a podcast (Food Psych was my choice today) and headed back out for a solo walk. This is one of my favourite self care activities. I’m not good at meditating, but when I’m walking I feel like the world just falls away and I can let my mind clear. Our local shopping centre is setting up for the celebration of Chinese New Year so there are cute little figures and decorations appearing everywhere. I love these guys!I met up with Olivia from Yum. Gluten Free for breakfast at Dovetail on Overend. I had the best avocado on gluten free toast with some added haloumi (been craving it this week) and one of the best dirty chai’s I have ever had. After years of emailing back and forth it was so awesome to meet Olivia in real life. Lots of exciting things to come this year for Yum. Gluten Free too! When I got home I went to work testing a new recipe for the blog. I’ll be sharing it on Wednesday so make sure you come back then to grab my new dinner recipe celebrating summer veggies!Lunch time! Well, I’ve already made it, and photographed it, so I chowed down on my latest creation for lunch. I am my own quality control after all! After watching some tennis with Chris I settled in with a cup of tea and my new book, Victoria: The Queen by Julia Baird. I love Queen Victoria and the Victorian period. I am fascinated by both the woman (did you know she ruled by herself for more than 39 years – now that’s an independent lady) and the period and I can’t wait to dig into both non fiction and fiction set in the Victorian era this year. And then, I napped. I love a Sunday afternoon nap with Penny. We curled up on my bed and I fell asleep watching Instagram stories of the Women’s Marches happening all over the world. After I woke up from my nap I got back into the kitchen and made lasagne for Chris’s dinner. I love cooking him something special for dinner on Sunday nights, preferably something with lots of leftovers, so that Sunday night feels like a celebration rather than just the night before another week of work.

After dinner there was more reading and more tennis (there’s always more tennis at this time of year) and some ice cream, and then I climbed into bed with Penny. A successful Sunday in my opinion.

I hope you liked this slightly different post. I’m sure I’ll get better at chronicling a weekend day here and there to share with you all, and it might encourage me to go out and have adventures in Brisbane, which is one of my goals for the year!

Tell me, what did you get up to on your Sunday? Did anyone else go out for breakfast somewhere delicious.
