I didn’t get a chance to cook up anything awesome to share with you yet this week so I thought I would share a few of our weekend adventures!
Friday night kicked off with a run, and then I made dinner for Chris and one his friends. There’s no faster way to a man’s heart than with lasagne, so I had two happy boys on my hands when I pulled out Dessert for Two‘s Classic Lasagne recipe (from her second cookbook which I love!). After dinner was done Penny and I left the boys to drink and chat while I got some study done. She’s so cute when she’s trying to stay awake, but her puppy sleepiness got the best of her and she nodded off while I was watching a lecture on Binge Eating Disorder. Saturday morning started with a trip to the farmers market with my Mum and sister for some breakfast, fruit and veggie shopping, and catching up on what our weeks were like. I was in the mood for a savoury breakfast so I went with a couple of potato rosti topped with rocket, sauerkraut, and hummus. It’s a delicious combination! And a chai latte for a bit of sweetness to balance it out.
After the markets I hit up the gym to move my body and then Chris and I packed up Penny and headed off to the Powerhouse Dog Park for a doggy birthday party! Friends of ours (hi Kat and Nathan) threw the party to celebrate one of their pups turning 10! Kat even made a dog friendly birthday cake. Penny loved the peanut butter center!
Penny was a bit unsure at first, but after she warmed up she romped around the park with a few of the dogs for a while. She kept coming to me for cuddles every few minutes and then she’d go off and play again. It was a beautiful afternoon down by the river and by the time we got home humans and puppy all needed a bit of a nap before dinner.
On Sunday I woke up and went for a bit of a stroll while listening to a podcast, and then I had a quiet breakfast before I headed out for some shopping with my sweet best friend Caroline. We haven’t had a big shopping date for a long time and it was such a wonderful day walking around the shops, talking about important and not-so-important things. We stopped for lunch and had the most amazing pumpkin ravioli with grilled eggplant and cherry tomatoes. I didn’t get any photos of the day because I was just enjoying every moment with Caroline. I spent Sunday night snuggled in bed with Penny and Chris reading my latest library find: Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman by Anne Helen Petersen. I loved this paragraph at the end of one of the chapters.
“Unruliness isn’t just calling attention to arbitrary expectations of how a woman should behave. It’s also a willingness to expect better for all other women – and better of oneself.”
And that is where I shall leave you for today friends. Tell me, what adventures did you get up to this weekend?
