A Weekend In Noosa

This weekend Chris and I enjoyed a weekend away at a bed and breakfast at Noosa! My family gifted this two night stay to me for my birthday last year, so we finally got around to using it just before my birthday this year. Thank you so much family! I can sense 2017 being the year of Aussie getaways and adventures. We are certainly looking forward to a few wedding related trips later this year too! We were both lucky enough to be able to take Friday off so after a sleep-in for Chris and a walk for me we headed off. We organised a lovely pet sitter to come and take care of Penny while we were away, but I always feel guilty leaving her behind. We stopped on the way so Chris could get his hair done and I took myself on a little date for some lunch. Thynne Road Deli & Cafe has the best iced lattes and haloumi and peperonata toasted sandwiches. When we finally arrived in Noosa we checked into our motel. We stayed at 10 Hastings Street Boutique Motel – it was so cosy and cute! And conveniently located on the main street of Noosa and just 2 minutes walk from the beach! Check out how cute our room was!

And to welcome us to our room: free wine! I spent the afternoon exploring while Chris had a nap. We headed out for dinner after the sun went down and settled in for the evening at Cafe Le Monde. It was such a hot evening and they had misting devices set over the tables to keep us cool. The mojitos didn’t hurt either!

We loved the menu. Chris ordered a fragrant seafood green curry and I had a huge pile of vegetarian nachos. We took a  stroll along the beach and picked out our dreams apartments for when we retire filthy rich (it doesn’t hurt to think positively!). The next morning I headed out to walk the Noosa National Park trails. I walked out through the Tanglewood Track until I reached Hell’s Gates and then returned via the Coastal Track. It ended up being about 9.5km and took me about 90 minutes. I took my earbuds thinking I might listen to some podcasts, but I ended up treating it like a walking meditation and just focusing on my breathing and the sounds of the ocean, the bush, and the silence all around me.

When I got back Chris and I headed to the Eumundi Markets for some breakfast. When we got back to Noosa it was super crowded and we couldn’t find a park. There may have been a minor meltdown before we decided to just drive down the coast and find somewhere to enjoy lunch and a cool drink. We settled in at Kelly’s of Peregian. Their menu has so many gluten free and vegetarian choices so there’s something for everyone and it’s super cute too. I enjoyed the zucchini, haloumi, and mint fritters with marinated artichoke salad and Chris said that the grilled barramundi and chips were delicious too. We were in much better spirits on our drive back from Peregian Beach. There was one problem left to solve though: we had been at the beach for 24 hours and I hadn’t had any ice cream yet! We headed to Nitrogenie! I love watching them make the nitrogen ice cream and they always have the most interesting flavours and toppings. Chris got a mint choc chip shake (very choc minty) and I went for the lemon meringue pie. It came with meringue topping, which they cooked with a torch! And a little syringe of lemon curd for me to inject. The ice cream itself was like a super creamy lemon and vanilla flavour. I think this ice cream may be a contender for my pantheon of ice cream experiences. After a nap to sleep off my ice cream we headed out to Spanish night at 10 Hastings Street Cafe! We enjoyed a carafe of sangria with two gentlemen playing guitars and singing Spanish tunes to us. We started with some tapas of warmed olives and bread with olive oil and dukkah. Chris tried the wagyu beef burger and I had patatas bravas and veggies with chermoula and aioli. We got so busy talking and listening to the music that I didn’t take any photos of our food! After a sangria-induced sleep in I went for one last quick walk along the headland. The water was the most amazing turquoise patchwork. I took a few moments to breathe in gratitude for our two days away and that we live so close to this majestic place.

After a quick breakfast we hopped in the car, popped on some podcasts, and made our way back to Miss Penny. What a weekend! What an adventure!
